American bass Goodness

I even bought a set for myself...

The quality looks exceptional. They even come with grilles, which I was surprised to see.

Looking to install them Saturday morning. I need two replacement door panels...

Looks good. Most of my woofers have rubber surrounds, very durable.

Well after some thought and debate... Its not worth it to make a baffle. The difference it is off isnt a giant deal. I couldnt anyhow as the screws would be to close to each other.

So I came up with an easier solution.

I ground the two plastic locating pins off the mounting surface. I used two screws to secure the 4x6 towards the top. The bottom two screws just pull the mounting ears down.

As you can see in the below picture there IS a gap around the sides and especially at the bottom. No larger than 1/8" at worst case.

Im going to use clear silicone to seal this area off. Just put a nice fillet of silicone around the top side.

Well some 4x6's have the oversized multiple mounting options, these dont.

They have a few variations of the 4x6 size wise, so its a tricky creature.

For the rear 6x9 to 5.25" conversion.

Just get some 1/4" plywood. Take the 6x9 and trace it out.

Cut/drill as needed then.

The 5.25's should come with a template like the 4x6's do. Use that for the 5.25" section.

yea anythings is better than that. i was just saying for the hell of it, not like you would even notice the difference between 5.25 and 6.5 in the back.

yea i really don't notice my rears much at all with a 1200w kicker L7. They are basically only midrange right now, the FIE on my stereo cuts out low sounds on my fronts and cuts out the highs sounds on the rear. and the subs take the bass. so basically the rears don't do much except when i shut FIE off when i have rear passengers.

OK I got them installed a little bit ago. Only listened to a few songs.

Im fairly impressed. The 4x6 cone has decent mid bass output for its size. The tweeter seems ok, not quite as bright as I like it- but decent.

Of course factors here, Im used to component speakers with the tweeter in the sail, being down low hurts that area. I also used my high pass crossover to filter out anything below 80 Hz. As you can imagine a little 4x6 doesnt produce 20 Hz well... lol So I eliminated anything under 80 Hz.

I would advise anyone else getting these to do the same thing. By "bass blockers" or a capacitor, your choice.

Bottom line is for the price they are good stuff. Not the $600 set of comps Ive had, but still good stuff. If I upgrade my doors I might goto a bigger size. For now I just want factory fit.
