forgive the paint diagram...

after doing some research, it should be possible to just get some rear defroster repair kit solution, use some masking tape to put some lines on the side mirrors (i'm thinking VERY thin lines, and a bunch of them to make it look like there aren't really any there) similar to the picture

the only downside is HOW would you connect wires to this, to patch it over to the same lines that run to the back? the power line shouldn't be all that hard to find, and i'm sure you can just patch into the ground for the power mirror motor....

but again... how?

if i can get some good ideas collaborated on this, i'll definitely give it a try and let you guys know how it turns out. (pics, and possible how to)

ice scraper doesn't work for glazed on ice, coating the mirror. Its happened about a dozen times this year.. we already covered that issue that heated mirrors SHOULD be an option on our car....

i was thinking two small tabs on the side of the mirror would be easy to epoxy some small wires too... but that'd be a way to "ghetto rig" it... i'd rather do it a little classier...

i would think the same connection for the rear defroster could work but would probably have to modify
also as far as grids i have seen rear defroster repair kit with tape and special paint ,glue whatever you want to call it before

by the looks of it, the "repair kit" solution is similar to a conductive epoxy. which would work.. but how would you connect your wires to it, if its on the front side of the mirror??

yes, but how are you gonna mount those?

have them sticking off the sides of the mirror? why not just put big pink flags on them!?? (i'd look purely idiotic) i'd like this to look as stock as possible.

i also pm'd yalero, and checked to see if the black plastic came off the mirror, when he did his leds, and it doesn't. so that ruins that idea too.

like i said back in post #38, the black plastic DOES separate from the mirror, and so far i've had no problems with the trim adhesive i reattached it with.

bad news yall.

i attempted to pry my mirror out of the housing. (just the mirror from the base mirror housing that mounts to the car) and i'm almost certain i broke the motor mounts... it wasn't coming out easily, and still is in there. maybe because i have an 03, the glue is still very much intact, or they just used really good stuff when putting mine together.

i'm going to continue to mutilate this one, since it no longer even "clicks" downward... and won't ever be put back on my car. so if/when i get it off, i'll still make a how to, but i HIGHLY doubt i'll ever actually complete this mod.

if anyone else wants to take their hand at it, i won't complain at all.

I am sorry if I revive an old topic, but I was looking for the same and I think, it can be done now with heating films.

For example like this:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/V3-si...434694866.html

I didn't find the best solution yet, because the available items are mostly for newer cars, but I think, it's possible.

There is a company, which seems to make customized films too, but I didn't contact them yet:
http://www.heaterfilm.com/html_l.aspx?id=1389

---

And for the guy, who screamed BLOWDRYER the whole time: I had heated mirrors on my old Rover 620si and you can not compare a heated mirror with a blowdrier. If you want to use a blowdryer, well, your choice, but there are people, who actually like to have it the easier way and if they can afford it, why not? Not everybody is so unsophisticated, like you
