4T65E-HD......will bolt right up to the 3400, but requires fabrication, some custom parts and programming to install in an Alero.
PM BlackJack.

If it came out of a 98 Grand Prix with a SC 3800, the bellhousing is for a 90 degree V-6. The 3400 is a 60 degree V-6. So without an adapter plate, it will not bolt directly to a 3400.

The same model number of the transmission doesnt always mean that it will fit. The transmission can have the same internal parts, but different cases with different bellhousings. The old turbo 400 had several different bellhousings. There was a Chevy pattern and a BOP pattern and some even had a universal pattern. Late 80's S-10 blazers had 700-R4 transmissions. The 4.3 had a 90 degree bellhousing while the 2.8 had a 60 degree bellhousing. While the internals were the same, neither would interchange for a direct swap. Trust me, I rebuild transmissions for a living.

That's funny.. Because the chevy 60°V6 and buick 90°V6 in early FWD and all "3800" applications have the same bell housing pattern (so do some of the pushrod 4-cylinders too)
The Chevy 90°V6 (4.3 and 3.8) use the same pattern as the SBC. The pre 3800 RWD Buck 3.8 uses the old BOP bell housing pattern.
The Buick 3.8 is a 231 and the Chevy 3.8 is a 229.
