so this winter I'm going to do the infamous gasket replacement. and since I've got some time between when I do it and now, I was thinking of doing what I could to the intake side of the motor while its torn apart...
My friend's dad said he'd P&P the LIM and UIM for me, should I go ahead and get my hands on a TB and have him port the UIM to match for new TB as well?
or would it be better to get my hands on some 3500 parts?
also thought this would be a good time to install a 180tstat.
change over to green coolant
change the plugs (what should I go with?)
ah, can't think of much else. anything within reasonable budget you could say.

the things you listed is pretty much everything that came to my mind.....also, you could polish or paint the outisde of the upper intake and valve cover.

IMO, i wouldnt waste my time or money on Iridium plugs.
ive heard more horror stories from users of iridium plugs and the misfires they cause.
plus the fact that a set of plugs run damn near $75 is just crazy, considering they do not perform and better than a good copper plug or even a plat.

what year is your car?
maybe the 03+ came with iridiums, if they did, i am not aware of that. i have only seen AC delco plats used and NGK plats on the 3100 and 3400.

i would recomend the AC Plats for sure if your just going for a basic tune up.
if the iridiums are pregapped and VERIFIED to be .060, i dont see the harm, but i bet they will not be pregapped to .060 and you will have to regap them to be correctly gapped, that is where you get people having issues with iridiums because the tip is so freakin small that the slightest thing can/will chip the tip or even break it off.
seriously, its smaller than the mechanical pencil lead.

yeah I'll stick to the plats. I dont plan on doing anything major to the engine besides what was mentioned above and an exaust.
BTW do you guys think the 60 deg' ebay store is a good deal for ported UIM and LIM's??? i might go this route if my friend can't come through for me on the P&P.

if it comes down to buying off the internet buy germ's stuff, i have got a set of his p&p upper and lower intake manifolds and heads w/ ls1 springs and i love em, he does great work and is totally trustworthy, besides if you are going to spend the money why not support someone in the community who does quality work instead of someone on ebay who you have no idea what kind of job they did on the stuff.
