It's similar, but there's no filter or pan to remove. Just a drain plug.

Just make sure you figure out how you're going to refill it before you drain it. Theres a drain plug and a fill plug, and you have to figure out how you're going to pump the new fluid into the fill plug in order to refill it.

Take to a dealership and have them do a tranny service.
Dropping the pan and replaceing fliud only gets out 3 quarts of the 13.5 quarts that are in the tranny

No, it doesn't. It gets out about half the fluid. On an alero it gets 7-8 quarts. Much safer than a 100% flush, and changes the filter too. Flushes are bad news anyways.

Looking form the firewall side of the trans,
Fill Plug, Red cap under exhaust manifold cross pipe, under brake res.
Check Plug right side of pic under where the drive shft comes out- cause GM was too cheap to put in a dipstick.
Ive done this several times, thats why I have 4 ramps to get the car up, or use a lift at work. You have to fill, run, check several times to get the level correct.
AND then more info than you could ever want at the speed of internets

Flush is bad news if you didn't do it when you should have. Done on a proper schedule, flush and filter are the best way to go because you change all the fluid. The issue comes from viscosity changes when you have really old/burnt fluid and go to fresh, thinner fluid. You can get a bottle of trans fluid conditioner for these cases but its really best to just do it when its supposed to be done. On my 4T60-E, its every 30k.

I changed the fluid and filter on my 1985 Escort GT with automatic transmission every 30,000 miles. The filter never had anything in it. That transmission blew at 80,000 miles. On my 1995 Escort, it has 180,000 miles on it, and it still has the original automatic transmission (and transmission filter and some of the original transmission fluid). I'll probably change the filter sometime soon though. Both transmission were made in Japan by Mazda.

I found that annoying too. Like someone said before, if you get under your car and find the pan from underneath, up the side of the box is a small screw. If you loosen that and allow it to drip a little onto a paper towel or something, that's how you're supposed to check it (again...I think it's dumb that there's no dipstick).
I dropped the pan and replaced both fluid and filter myself literally within the first week I got the Alero from my cousin (process took about 2 hours to do the trans fluid). I also did oil and oil filter and still need to do the fuel filter...found out my cousin doesn't like to take care of cars apparently.
