Tell us more Cherrington.
I was going to buy a 'performance' cat recently but people in the know at work told me its a gimmick. The huge difference the OP felt is likely due to his former cat being clogged, causing his engine to choke on its own fumes. Mine wasn't that bad and when I changed it out it was like driving a different car.

You're the genius who took a stick and bashed the insides of your cat out, and you JUST said it roars now.

If by cutting Cat you mean removing it and replacing with a pipe of same diameter, well you will get more performance than with the stock Cat.
However, your car becomes illegal and with all the testing that was done on dynos about the "High flow cat" VS "Cat delete" it was shown very few difference btw the two, lets say .2 hp difference.

I wouldn't say that the max power is hugely affected, but the midrange mos def is.
