Lights Burning Out

ok, well over the last two months, i've had 2 blinker lights burn out, my license plate light, and one of the fog lamps. I haven't touched any of the lights since i bought the car other then the fog lamps. Could this just be because the lights are 8 years old? or could it be something else? it seems odd that they'd all go so close to each other.

ya dude, the lights are just old. it shouldnt be uncommon that the lights are burnt out after such a time. switch do LED's and they will last soo much longer!! guarenteed!

its like having lightbulbs in your house ceiling fan, when one of them burns out, the other ones are bound to burn out soon, since they are getting close to the same amount of usage, lightbulbs dont last forever you know, its just common sense.

^^yeah, i know that lightbulbs burn out. it just seems odd that they all go at once because some get more use than others.

i'm not stupid. i know that lights burn out. it just seemed odd that they would all go within two months of each other considering that there's a variety of different bulbs and that some are used much more than others. there's no need to be sarcastic or try to be funny or make me sound dumb because its a decent question and its at least more relavent than most of the random threads on this site.

don't worry about it. when i bought my car, all lights except front headlights and front blinkers were burnt out. made the dealer replace them before i took the car and haven't had a problem after that besides one barke light shortly after.

do you use the rx-7 as much as the alero? meaning are your lights on the rx-7 getting the same amout of use as the alero light? probably not sinces it a project car whereas the alero would be your daily driver.

i believe it has alot to do with the quality of wiring and electrical output regulation. our suburban is a 2001, daily driver, and hasn't had any lights burn out. Whereas, our old trail Blazer had majority of the lights burn out within 2 years of buying it new. The trail blazer eventually had a recall for cheap wiring harnesses that caused bulbs to have surges which burned them out. i'm thinking that the same may be the same for the alero. beside the fact, gotta have bulbs so i decided to quit crying about it and just fix it

Yeah, I always judge a vehicle's quality by how long the bulbs last...do you really think the bulbs are made by the car company? They're all made by the same few ~lighting~ companies which supply the entire automotive industry! Which is why it was very easy to get replacement headlights for my
'72 Cutlass when I was in Japan.

Too bad I don't put quotes in my signature, because that right there is sig-worthy.

I hope you didn't touch the bulb. That will definately shorten the lifespan of the bulb when it comes to the fogs and headlights (high and low beams).

i do use the rx-7 occasionally.. mostly summer time.. but what about the previous owner he never used it as a project car.. it was his actualy daily driver.. still its all on the quality and the control..they shouldnt burn out after a few years..

this is simply not true...the way lightbulb life expectancy is determined, there is a very large variance in life-span from one bulb to the next.
