and defrost also runs using the A/C and with the fact that it hasn't sat running much without one or the other on that would make sense

I forgot our cars have absolutely nothing in common? Ecotecs are not at all the same i suppose? and I live in Las Vegas NV dude much higher air temp here.

The alero did the same type of temp cycling. Almost to the 3/4 mark, fans kick on then below the 1/2 mark after a couple minutes.

They're not. There are differences in tuning and engine management between platforms. Shit's not identical just because it has the "Ecotec" label.

Minimal difference in cooling efficiency.

Weird, that usually signifies air being bled from the cooling system.

no leaks no loss, L61 is an L61, just like the LD9 is an LD9 different computer but still mechanically the same engine.

A 1995 LD9 in a Cavalier is not the same as a 2002 LD9 in an Alero. Check out those injectors, that EGR, that intake manifold, the compression ratio, etc..

There doesn't have to be a big leak or noticeable loss for there to be air moving around in the system.

That must be a super-rare cavalier.

Sounds like an air bubble in the system, that would be the first thing I'd check

Second, could be the thermostat

What would be the best way to drain the air out of the system...I would ask my dad to help but he is already a skeptic of the car so he doesn't need to know anything else is going on

Yep, I kind of skimmed through everything but so far there is nothing that is alarming about your situation. That is just the normal temperature range. Once you go above 3/4 then you need to start worrying.

Bleed your coolant lines for air if you are in doubt, but everything sounds like it is within normal range. Mine used to freak me out too.
