lower intake manifold gasket

I know there about a thousand threads on here about this but i can yet find one to answer my question. if you get a dealership to replace the LIM gasket they replace about 200$ in other stuff, how much of that is necessary to replace.

this is all the stuff they want to do, yeah I'm not getting a dealer to do mine, but I want to know if I actually have to by all these parts.

You will need lower and upper intake gaskets as well as valve cover gaskets. Some silicone sealant is also needed. An oil change will need to be done also. As far as bolts you should be able to reuse what is there. You may also need around 1 gallon of coolant. Depending on the mileage you may want to have the oil pump drive o-ring replaced also. Book time on the job is about 6 hours. A good tech can do it in about 3 hours. I know this because I've done a dozen or more of these jobs. Any other questions, let me know.

Along the same lines, is it bad to take it to your dealer? Reason I ask is that I have the extended warranty for my alero, and i've noticed a leak around the LIM, and that kind of stuff is covered under this warranty. So I'm just wondering, is it such a bad thing to take it to a dealer, or is it just a bad thing because of cost to a dealer?

Ok cool then, I can have them fix it because it costs me only 100 dollars no matter how much the cost of them to do it is. Good stuff there. Love extended warranties.

I just found out that mine is leaking too.. Really sucks... I just went in for a normal oil change and now I'm going back for a $700 job to fix it...

Go get a Kit and take care of it yourself for less than $100.00 Make sure you get a Fel-Pro brand kit. Part number MS98003T, comes with all the gasket you need, include thermostat gasket, Gasket Maker sealant, and numerous gasket you will almost never use.

well the thing is, I can't do a whole lot to my car where I'm at... And stuff like that, I can't do here... I'm in this apartment complex place and they have rules on working on your car... working on your engine, like that kind of stuff, is definately against the rule... and I can get basically get fired from my job... so I kinda have no choice... that and I have no clue when it comes to taking apart the engine... I better leave it to someone who knows what they are doing...

I love my car, Just needs some fixin' up... Any car you get, you are gonna run into problems... Just gotta get it fixed and move on.

Im just glad that I have that extended warranty. I'm taking it in on wednesday hopefully. Get me a loaner from them. Woot! I love loaners. Get soo much hang time!

But yea, I don't have the space to do any engine work, and I don't have the tools. I can do most electrical work, but engine work, out of my league. Leavin it to the pro's if you know what I mean. Gotta keep this car running for the next 20 years lol, instead of the next few weeks until I could get done with the work and then it not work at all lol.

same here. haha lol I didn't get the extended warrenty... Bought mine used with a lovely dealer's 30 day 50/50 warrenty... I'm more on the electrical side too...

i just got done doing mine about 30 min ago. it was verrrry time consuming. lots and lots of crap to take off. we will see in the next few days if i put it all back together right.

if the manifold is leaking can it cause even more problems if not fixed right away? cause i dont have 700 bucks to fix it, so i gotta wait for a couple more paychecks

If it's mixing with the oil you run the risk of losing the engine.
