ABS Problems

Alright so I first noticed this on my way to work this morning when I had to make a hard stop cause some idiot pulled almost completely out in front of me. Anyways I stopped real hard, enough to make the ABS kick in and stop the wheels from locking up and as soon as let off the brakes my "ABS" light came on. Just that light, no Trac, SVS, or Brake light. And obviously I have no more anti lock brakes. That's no fun.

But here's the confusing part, when I cut the car off and back on again there's no more ABS light until I make another hard stop (enough to make the ABS kick in) then after that ABS no longer works until I cut the car off then back on again.

Anybody got any ideas? Ive already checked fuses, and disconnected the battery for about an hour and it still does the exact same thing. Could it be just the ABS sensor in the wheels going bad?

NO suggestions at all? Im going to try to make some time to rotate my tires tomorrow so I'll check all the connections and wiring when I do that.

it wouldn't be a sensor cause that throws SVS, Brake, and ABS lights, and I'm not sure but maybe the Trac off light too. My best guess would be a fault with the actual ABS modual. Easiest solution is find a shop that does free code reading.

^^^Correct - ABS has it's own set of codes. Basic units don't find them, the reader must state it has GM ABS compatability in order to work properly.

There are some steps in Haynes for resetting the ABS system, might help. I'd try a good brake fluid flush/refill to eliminate any bubbles. Any good shop should be able to diagnose this.

Lol. I stop relatively normal. Just that idiot literally pulled right out in front of me and if I didnt throw on the brakes hard then I would have hit them.
