backseat sound mod
So i want to add a little thump to my car with out adding the traditional sub/box... what do you think of this idea...
I want to replace the factory speakers with something nice, probably components up front than some good 6x9's in the back. The next thing i would like to do is mount a sub of some sort in the middle section of my back seats. I'm thinking a 6x9 or 10". I would simply cut out that middle section of my back seat and secure down a new board to mount the speaker on.
My only concern is sound quality... without having an enclosure of some sort will the quality be lost so much that it isnt worth it?
Has anyone done this befor?

You cant just toss a sub into a cabin, hook it up and expect it to sound good.
You can Infinite Baffle it though, if you get the right sub...
If you dont need much bass, look into a single 8" sub. I have one in the FS section. Its a small box, .8 cubes... I would advise something small, thats easily movable.

look up infinite baffles before you go ne further like ryan said, and if you chose to go this route look at some of image dynamics subs, I believe they r all able to be used in ib setups

ok so it will most def be an ib sub setup. in order to be able to vent the top i will have to mod the rear deck so that the subs can still be placed in the middle. this should make for a great summer project.
hoping it will turn out something like this.... http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...ferrerid=56200

make sure to get subs that will work in an IB setup, like i said image dynamics has some good stuff, as well as elemental designs, they have a couple for IB. Might also want to look at soundsplinter which is almost the smae thing as tc sounds, they ave some IB subs as well.

With that sub it mounts straight to the body. Alero's don't have that as we have fold down seats. I would expect a lot of rattle out of it, but you could make it work. Something I have never seen. It would be cool.

It's all personal preference as to what size you can fit and what, though typically the bigger you go, the more sq you lose
