The HID bulbs burn so hot that it melted the plastic over time. So glass is the only way to go I guess.

it has nothing to do with the soldering. theres a little metal spring clip that wears, and remains in contact in the middle. when the relay is energized, it suppose to click on an off. when it starts to weaken, the clip doesn't clip properly.

I took my old one apart hoping it was only a broken solder joint. Those little modules are complicated, but i found it. (too small to get a good pic though) Its not user fixable.
