It's all about condition and parts availability, and what you can afford, (not going into debt). Being at the right place at the right time and making a suitable offer helps, too.

How far away is it from you? I would definitely take a closer look, no car is perfect.
Damn, looked at some various Canadian classifieds, there's a crap load of low-mileage 5-speed GX's up there lol and Aleros in general.

the problem is, we have a few heavily modified (nicely done) that sell for less than 5k. (total retail would probably be in the 15-20k for work done)
for a stock car, you probably won't find a buyer for 6k.

For a stock car with no miles... Where do you live? On average, that's the going rate for a 90k mile POS here in CT

depends on where you are. cars seem to be more money up here. i have yet to see an alero go for less than 3-4k around here

I paid $500 for mine with 130k miles. I put 40k on it since without any issues. I mean, I have put work into it, but I surpassed the paid value of the car long ago. It was QUITE a steal. However, if this is a car you really want, 8k for a basically new car assuming nothing major is wrong with it is great. Do it. Personally, I'd rather buy a truck or a Jeep with that 8k, but that's just me.
