amp cutting out?

my jl 1000/1 has been fading in and out a lot lately and sometimes just cut out totally ...the power and ground are fine everything is connected how its supposed to...i thought the capacitor would solve it...it helped it a little but it still happens...and my amp is connected to the back of my seat and it happens more when my seat is up than when i have it down...but when i do have it down i can just reach back and bump the seat that its screwed to and it will go back to normal...ive tried wiggling all the wires to see if it was a bad wire but i cant do anything to actually recreate the fading which bugs me...i really hope its not an internal thing bc i cant fork out the money for an amp that big again and i really...really dont want to downsize

Is it still under warranty? If so send it in to have it checked.

wires loose in the connector. Remote wire loose behind the HU. Sounds like a bad ground to me. happens to my friend all the time. I always tell him to have me fix it and he never brings that car when he comes over. Idk. :\

Might wanna check your RCAs too

And throw a dmm on the power wire to see what kinda power you're getting.

Well do the big 3. A bigger cap isnt the fix, the big 3 is the starting point.

This part of his statement leads me to believe that it is more then being under powered....we don't know what he is running on the amp, and how many ohms they are wired for. If it happens more when up then down sounds like it could be the thermal protection circuitry...do you feel if it is really hot when it trips? Run the amp at lower settings for a extended period of time and see if it still trips could be the amp as you stated.

no its not hot at all...especially at this time of year

and here are the specs...i have 4ga running from the battery to cap and cap to amp and amp/cap to ground...10ga running to 2 4ohm dvc kicker comp vr's and i tuned it at 50hz at 4ohms and its running bass boost at +7db out of +18db on the amp and the sub setting on my hu is all the way up but the bass itself is at 0

if theres anything else you guys need to know just tell me haha but i think i covered the majority

and ill turn down the boost on my hu down tonight and see if it makes a difference

you connected your amp to your seat......so its grounded to the seat...right? cause if thats the case it could be a bad ground. Is it bare metal where u grounded it?

I think he meant he has it bolted to the back of the seat. but grounded it somewhere near. Probably that bolt you can see when you pull the seat down. right after the trunk carpet.

no i have it running to the back of my trunk behind the carpet...theres this like metal peice with a bunch of holes that just sticks out of the main body of the car so i sanded it down to bare metal and put it in there

and turning the hu down did nothing at all

So you checked you grounds and turned the gain down and it still goes in and out..then it's got to be the amp causing the problem. You got to 2 dvc 4 ohm subs, and you are running one line to the amp which I assume is bridged..are you sure the amp is stable at what ever ohm rating you are running? Still sounds like and amp problem.

So you have a body ground? If so you may want to try a better ground.
And did you set the gains by ear, dmm, or did a shop install it, that may also be an issue.

@lonnie- its a monoblock amp so everything is all out of one line...its stable from 1.5ohms to 4ohms
@cargodz- i set the gains by a dmm to exactly what the amp manual said
