Console LEDs
yea i am putting LEDs throughtout my the front of my car, like vents, floor, front speakers console...
I am starting with the console, and i plan on putting like 10 in the Shifter area, under the center console, any ideas?? and also i want to put a couple inside the Shift knob(automatic) and the E-Brake handle.... how should i go about doing this?
What do you all think? Right now i am putting some under the shifter, when the plastic spacer is inbetween the shifter and the little console thing, specifically underneath it, so that their is a glow to it at night.
again what do u all think?

For some of those, I'd go with cathodes from Oznium.com

i'm not seeing how putting them IN the shifter will help anything...
i have vents, doors cubbys, floor, gauges, shift console, dome light done and how tos/pics of all of them.
cathodes are ok, neons suck.. leds are superior to all of them. just depends on if you want to do work for the look or not.
i've seen/thought about doing under door handle and cutting a word/phrase into the A-pillar, plexiglassing it, the backlighting with leds...
I've seen in engine, wheelwell, trunk, backseat...
members to check out would be satsuriku, clutch1, myself, cyberknight, and silentalero i think we have some of the most led work done. (as far as i know... some might w/o posting much about it)
between doors, vents, dome light, and shift console.. i have 65 leds. another 14 for gauges and probably around 30 in the footwell area... so... 109 leds in my car!

IMO, cathodes are a good bang for the buck. Good light distribution, easy to conceal, low power draw (about on par w/ LED's), great for places like under the seats (one 12" and one 4" will work nicely)... really all depends on the intended application as to what one should use
Dug up this pic of my car:
3 LED's per vent, 3 under the HVAC, 2 in the change cup, 12" cathode X2 under the dash, 12" cathode x2 under the front of the seats (which I need to put back in eventually)
Also since my dash now looks like this:
^^one more gauge is going in on the left vent...
Way too much red glowy things

All of my lighting is LED's
crappy pics of the interior (but you'll get the idea)
and this is under my driver and passanger seats facing the back
and heres a handy How-To i made with a big help from Cherry
http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14683
of course if that how to i made them for my wheel wells but they work better for interior. i also have my gauges changed to blue leds, same with my courtosy (sp?) light for when i open my doors, blue led for the P N R D 3 2 1, got a couple of leds in the door slits and some in the center cubby space.
and me and cherry are not even close to being done yet!! wait til next spring, we get ALLL winter to screw around with, what im guessing, hundreds of LED's
IMO LED's are the best to go, they need like 0.3v to light them (depending on the color), they last well over 100,000 hours, brighter and as long as they are installed and made properly, can be many times stronger than any cathode or neon you will ever buy. and my favorite part with LED's........THERE CHEAP! cheaper than cathodes imo (ebay FTW!!)
though i have no idea nor can i see you fitting any size LED's in the shift knob or the e-brake......where the hell would the light emit from? cause i cant see it. the places where me, cherry and whiteliquid have suggested is a good place to start. be sure to use the search feature and do your research first, cause it will pay off when planning such things, and will save you many hours.
Good Luck!

They arent in the Shifter,They are in the PRND321 spaces...I took some paint stripper and rubbed off the PRND321 and put the led's in there and filled with silicone....also they are wired in with the stock lights so they come on when they are supposed to..
I'll get my pics tonight sometime....but all i have is my cam phone
Oh yea im workin on the door cubbies now...have a pretty cool idea or that
