Now this got me to thinking and it may, and im sure will be a dumb questionnn. But since the Camaro are Dual Piston. If you were to get the Calipers for the front, and each bracket. Could the calipers be used on the stock alero rotors?

this, plus the difference in diameter makes for a different curvature of the pad/rotor contact plane. don't mix'n'match brake elements.

most definitely not. it will barely fit the 16s, I think, but will still work.

Is there some reason why you think the stock brakes suck? I actually think that they are pretty good. At least compared to my 1995 Escort, which has exceptionally crappy Mazda brakes, my Alero stops on the proverbial dime.

Well I also drive a 300zx which is why I think my stock brakes suck. Though that's just by comparison.

That's like comparing my 12" brakes on the Alero to the 14" brakes on the STS-V.

The problem is not necessarily the calipers.
The biggest issue is that for the weight of the car, the rotors are just too small.....but GM sized them so that they could fit a 15" wheel to the car.
They should have been 12" rotors from the start, but that would have required a base wheel size of 16".
FWIW, I'm sending parts to KORE3 today for mock-up of a C6 Corvette front brake setup.

they just do, they are too small for the size of the car, every time i had to change pads i had to do roters too because they were warped beyond repair due to overheating. and its not like im hard on them either.
google alero warped roters

Stock brakes are really bad... compared to other cars I've driven.
Everything is better compared to an Escort.

this is the second time i've heard this, this month.
the local parts store actually hired a guy who is competent in cars, and as i was chatting, he mentioned that alero's have undersized brakes, and thats part of why i have to replace them often.

Escorts not designed by Mazda, I.E. Escort not made in 1991-1996 actually have excellent brakes. It's the Mazda parts they used (to match other Mazdas with crappy brakes) that are terrible. My GF's 2002 Subaru Forester is just as bad.

Seriously, about how often should I expect to replace the brake pads on this thing? I've only got 28K miles and the original pads, and I wasn't thinking of even checking them anytime soon.

it really depends on your driving style, there is not a set in stone number that you have to change them at, if it is a daily driver, usually every year is a good point to check them and see how much meat you have left on the pads.

Military standard on the hummers is a quarter inch left on the pads, though if you're checking it that much, you probably already know how and when to change them.
