I was tinkering around with the idea of keeping the 'ho, and with that, thoughts of turboing the ol' girl crossed my mind aswell. In the process, I came across a 1/4 mile calculator. Based on Ken's info on his cardomain, ( 3,260 lbs, 240 est. HP ) I tend to think the calculator's slightly on the slow side, but all-in-all, pretty accurate nonetheless. Have fun, -Eric

1/4 mile calc

That HP 'estimate' is completely useless. A before and after dyno is the only thing that gives you numbers to throw in a calculator like this.

Ken probably does need to dyno the Redog, but using his numbers, the calc was only off by .2 on the 1/4 mile in reference to Ken's quickest run, and dead on in reference to Ken's "average" I don't think his HP estimate is off that much. Think about it: the headers alone are good for 30 horse from what we've read, and there's alot more than those headers helping her to breath. Not to mention the pullies, etc. etc. His estimate is probably alot closer than you think B.

um...yea.

That calculators too ambiguous because it doesn't specific whether or not the HP is from the crank. And whenever I talk about HP I talk about whp, and I never tell people I have 170HP (car is stock).

Yeah I only deal with whp. The variance in drivetrain losses in cars is pretty big (especially awd vs rwd vs fwd) and it doesn't matter how much you have at the crank, it matters how much hits the road. Plus manufacturers numbers can be wack. For example, my car is rated at 205 at the crank. Most dyno it at 200-215 at the WHEELS. Same deal with SRT-4's. Some cars, like Rx-8's, dyno WAY below their manufactures numbers at the wheels.

my dad has all these crazy computer programs.. one is supposed to give you stats like hp and junk by entering all these detailed complicated things about your car. yeh i dont understand it, its really in depth, but he says its a little off. but he wont dyno our firebird (our only car we mod...) he says its bad for them. he wants to track race it tho.

what your dad must mean is that stomping on the gas pedal is bad for your car which it is...if you do it all the time. but in no way is one dyno bad for it. usually on a dyno you get the car up to 2k rpm's then jump on the throttle. usually manual cars are dynoed in 4th gear.

So, what's the percentage of "drivetrain power loss" on N bodies?
