funny thing is.. i even commented on that thread.

i thought for sure you didn't do a keyless system, but apparently i just can't read....

relays, wiring and connectors.. hmm... just need a good site for a big variety of switches... or a place to put switches that are easy to reach, but arent obvious...

sorry for a old thread revival but I'm new around here just got a 2001 5spd alero and I'm looking into a push button start to take place of the hazard button. Does the 2001 have the passlock or whatever it is that will give me a pain in the ass time trying to wire up the push button? If so..f that.

Yep, it does have passlock. It can be disabled however.

I believe you can disable this with a tuner as this was something that was done when my car got tuned.

No one answered you because no one else but aftermath has done this mod I think, and he would be the only one I would take a how to from, but I understand that its a bitch to put one together so I was just throwing it out there since he mentioned that he has done this mod....Most of us I'll say knew he did this mod.

As posted by aftermath.. to bypass passlock:

Its simple, Without cutting the wires yet, check the resistance in the yellow passlock wire and the black ground of passlock. Then goto radioshack or electronic store and get the same resistance resistor and solder in. (only cost a couple of cents). Then its permently bypassed. Same thing using the DEI 555L module, but don't cost anything. hehehe Most alarm shops will sell you that module to make money off of you when doing the remote start. If your lucky to find a shop that don't have the make money the easy quick way, they won't sell you the module and they'll solder in a resistor instead. Depends on who you go to for installment.

After you do that it's just a matter of doing the wiring for the wires from your ignition cyl, put them all on switches (one for on/acc, one for run.. I'm sure there's more), and put a pushbutton on the crank wire.
Obviously it's a little more complex, but as long as you know basic car wiring/ how to wire up relays you'll be fine.

Thread revive!! So I'm just trying to put in a push button in addition to the keyed ignition. My thinking is, if I have the keyed ignition in the RUN position, and have a button spliced into the START wire, will that start it up?

Also, I think the wire needed is yellow and runs to the IGN-SW BATT1 fuse thats under the hood.

Any input??? I don't want to try this and destroy it all because of one dumb mistake.
