Mine wouldnt work either. Stayed on fine but the set wouldnt hold. It was something in the button itself where it wouldnt "click". I never got around to replacing it but on a couple of occassions I held that button down to use cruise until my hand got tired.
Not sure if this is the same issue you guys see.

had it happen to me... spontaneously resolved itself.

...still happens off and on, but very uncommon. Now that its getting darker earlier, I'll find out if my headlights kicking on, kicks my cruise off...

guys. i have this same problem. heres what i worked out

it seems if you have 2 wheel bearings out, cruise control will stop working. my front to hub sensor wires were broken. fixed one, cruise works again. so if your abs, brake and service vehicle soon lights are on, look at that.

if no dash lights are on.
does your cruise work in the day time? without the headlights on? mine never fails then.

at night time, with the low beams on, the cruise works, but if i turn on highbeams on, more often than not, the cruise cuts out. if i tap the brakes really quick, the cruise will come back on.

my light setup, 6000k hid lights in lowbeam, 5000k lights in highbeam, all 4 lights come on when the lights are on high.

my theory is that there is too much current being drained on the stock wiring when the high beams first kick in. it has happened when the headlights turned on once it became dark enough outside.

now on your driver fender under the hood, beside the intake box, there is a little black box screwed to it. now mine broke off, and that did all sorts of crazy things to my eletrical. so i cleaned off a nice new spot and put a self tapping screw in for it. that helped alot, but still happens.

check to make sure your cruise control module has good connectons (little box beside the motor, in the ecotec atleast).

i'm going to install 2 relays that power the hid ballasts directly from the battery, and see if that helps

i know thats alot of reading, but hopefully that helps out. if you have any questions i'll be following this thread for a while

yea i just have my HIDs running off a relay from ignition source and bypassed my DRL, i think its much better that way, only problem is you really cant turn off the lights without shutting off the car.

yeah none of the abs, ses, or any of the lights in the cluster are on, we put in my screen and then it stopped working, i haven't gotten my hid's ordered yet but that shouldn't have anything to do with my cruise control. i might just end up puting my stock radio in and seeing if that will fix it if not then i guess i will have to do some hunting to see where it leads me.....

move your "remote" wire for the relays, to a gray interior light wire. when it has power, the headlights will turn on. very similar setup to the one the car already has... just more direct power from the battery

Sounds like the switch...

Can you handle looking up the wiring diagram, then going to the harness and using a multimeter to check to see if it's working properly??

If not I'll look it up and write a writeup for you.

It's likely the switch on the steering wheel. I had the same problem and replacing the switches fixed it. I'm not sure about the speed sensor idea because when I had a sensor go out my cruise still worked. I'd start by testing them if possible or just replace them if not, they aren't very expensive.

speed sensors do make a difference i believe. mine was causing the brake light to come on, and when your brake lights on the cruise quit working. replaced the front hub, presto, works again

i can understand the speed sensor for a few problems posted here... but what about those of us who have cruise kick off, hard (as in forcefully) while its engaged and working.

its working fine.... headlights turn on.... cruise is forcefully thrown off with a "thunk"...

...that...is NOT the speed sensor.
