Ooooohh, green!

i want the timing chain cover green too, but its a pain to take off. im gonna do my best to clean, mask, and paint it while still on the engine.

minimal sleep + minimal food + high concentrations of degreaser and spray paint fumes = me in bed. more pics tomorrow.

i give up. no matter what, i always get screwed when it comes to projects like this. planned on reinstalling everything tonight, and probably starting the car up tomorrow. not happening.

first, i cant seem to get the camshaft to sit right in the timing side, so it doesnt sit level at all. so i pretty much have this done:

next, i went to do the same to the intake side. open the package with the gaskets, and suprise! exhaust gasket instead of the intake:

the obvious difference between the two old gaskets:

off to autozone in the morning to get the right one. and hopefully get the cams to sit right. i cannot wait for this clustereff to be over.

The cams don't "sit right" until you bolt down the covers...

well, got the cam housings all back together. but not after 3 tries for the exhaust, including dropping half the lifters on the ground. friend helping me left, so i figured id give the reassembly of the timing components a shot. i cant seem to get the chain all the way onto the cam gears no matter how i try running it. ill have to try again in the morning when im not exhausted.

i did manage to get everything else back together. and it looks damn good. i also got the tb all trimmed so it moves freely. only issue now is the ball at the end of the throttle cable is too big and hitting the intake manifold. heres a couple pics:

God willing, everything will be finished at some point tomorrow, and i can finally drive the damn thing. goodnight.

timing chain is back in, timed perfectly, cover on. i was happy for about 2 min. until i tried to bolt on the engine mount. i have no idea how i got it off, but there is no way the bottom of the 3 bolts is going back on. there isnt enough space btwn the engine and side of the engine bay for the bolt, let alone a ratchet to tighten it. i really dont know how i got it off, or how im gonna get it back on. i can just use the top 2 right? kidding. anyway, ill give that another shot tomorrow. i just finished messing with the tb, and now everything operates nicely and clears the intake mani by a hair. heres a pic of it all back together (minus that mount):

mount/bolt:

oh, other random issue. took this piece off old tb:

cant find a spot for it on the new one. again, something to do tomorrow. trying to get to sleep before 3a.m. once this week.

Oh come on! Having extra parts let to over just means that tour that good at putting it back together!

well, still not done. the bar i used to keep the crank pulley from moving while tightening the bolt is somehow stuck and i cannot get it loose. the bolt backs out before the whole pulley moves. anyway, that little plastic vacuum line i posted up there went from the fpr to the tb. the 2.3l tb doesnt have a nipple for it to go onto. is this a huge issue not having it? i have no idea what its for, or whatll happen if its not on. im really starting to wish i didnt even bother with this project. i have the shittiest luck when it comes to stuff like this that should be fairly simple. maybe...maybe i can drive it to work tomorrow. 11 days after starting the goddamned thing.
