180 t-stat = good. 160 t-stat = bad.

Other things you can do to improve temp control is cooling system mild chemical flush to get rid of build up that restricts heat transfer, and additive such as water-wetter.

Don't know if that's availible in the Land of Iz.

I would not see any relation with driving in cold weather with a 180 T-stat. The engine gets hot at the same rate as with a 195 T-stat, it just open earlier, I put a 180 in my car and I have no issue at allm no difference. Only thing is that now I'm happy because it never gets over 1/2 now while it did go to 3/4 all the time before.
