Struts, yes finally!

Ive been saying Im going to fix my strut issue now for some time, nows thats time.

Basically I got 150K miles on stock struts. The fronts still seem fine, however the drivers strut mount is gone. Its getting worse.

If would cost me about $60 in parts and $50 in labor to have it replaced- no alignment. Thats another $50ish.

Im guessing the struts need to be replaced with the high miles.

So I was looking at piecing them together, but that runs me about $140 a strut, plus shipping from Rock.

So I looked into ready type struts, so the Mechanic can just slap them in.

There are only 3 I will consider.

Monroe #171672 best price $145ish shipped free on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...DER&v= glance

KYB SR4001 $189+ Shipping at rockauto.com
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...=FR6 3-SR4001

Gabriel #G56927 $195 at Autozone.

Does anyone have experience with any of these different sets?

Im probably going for the Monroes since its the Sensatrac strut, and Monroe is a brand Ive used before and liked.

The "t" in your title looked like an "l". This thread was very misleading...

i put the monroe quick struts all the way around. its really easy to do, I did them myself with common tools and then took it for an alignment for $100 on all four wheels. it was the easiest and cheapest way to go and I didn't think I would notice a difference in ride, but the car feels like a cadillac comapred to before.

Well my big issue here is Im getting ready to get rid of the car.

New struts or not, Im not going to get anymore out of it... lol

I plan to get a different vehicle come spring/summer.

So I know Im not going to do the rear struts, but I think the fronts might be worth it.

Im not to certain if I will be selling it or keeping it at this point.

I will probably end up keeping it though for a winter driver. I plan to buy a convertible- something like a sunbird or cavalier.

$288 shipped free super saving shipping.

No tax, no shipping.

The cheapest I found them was $196 at Advance.

Plus they were shipped like the next day from Amazon, coming USPS Priority. Should have them the 22nd they say.

Ok a few things I noticed.

Amazon will vary the price on items. These struts were $144 each, but I seen them as high as $166... I seen a $152 price also... So beware.

I got them installed today at a Belle Tire. $157 out the door.

Much better now. No more bearing squeal... Rides much much MUCH better.

I almost wonder if I made a mistake not doing the rears.

is it normal for these cars front driver side strut mount to go first? The mount in mine is horrible shape and just havent had the time to change it out yet but other then that all other struts are fine except for the rear pass. side. Makes a slight knocking noise over small bumps

It depends on the roads you drive and mileage...

struts and there part are meant to wear, and replacement is done at 50 thousand miles like the dealer list, for optimal performance of the car..

If your have problem its best to replace them asap...

I was way past 50K miles... lol

Mine were not blown, but I couldnt see just changing the strut mount.

For one I dont have the tool to do the spring, two I diodnt feel like messing with it (rare for me). Then you need an aligment.

So $55 for a mount, $50-$75 for an alignment. Might as well spend a bit more and get the struts fully replaced up front.
