I am installing my MTX Thunder 8000 to an MTX Thunder 801D. The amp does have speaker level inputs, but I also have a line out converter. I have the sun and sound package with the amplifier in the trunk. I want to know how to hook up the my MTX amplifier to the sub so that I keep my rear speakers. Should I go to the wire harness connecting to the factory amp or to the actual speaker?

If anyone has done this or knows how that would be great.

Thanks
Joe

I am not sure if that will work because the amp is probably expecting 4ohms and I think that the 6x9's are 2 ohms? You may have to get the wire going into the amp to do it.

I think you can do it by just splicing into your rear speaker wires but and I mean a big BUTT chances are the stock head unit doesnt have enough amps to make it work very good.

stock head unit does not have enough power. upgrade to a better headunit. you can get a headunit for like 100 bucks. just make sure it has preouts..or rcas.

i spliced my converter off the rear speakers, then ran the RCAs to the amp like normal preouts. Worked great and saved alot of money, and it booms. The problem i'm having now is that i find the subs are overpowering my mids and tweets, so i wanna put some more in the middle of my car on the side panels just behind the drivers seat. to do this i bought an EQ that has 3 sets of preouts, for fronts, rears and subs. I wanna put this just under my steering wheel, so instead of running my hi-z converter spliced off the rear speakers, i wanna splice off the headunit so i don't have to run RCAs from the back of the car all the way to the eq at the front of the car, and then all the way to the amps in the trunk again. does anyone know what colour the rear speaker wires coming out of the headunit are? I was told not to use the front speakers to splice because they don't have as full an audio range as the rear speakers(ie. the headunit doesn't send a full frequency range to the fronts, not as low). Any thoughts?

Turtle when you spliced into the rear speaker did you lose the rears. I want my 6x9's to keep working with my subs.

Thanks guys for all the help. I got it all hooked up and it sounds great. I don't know what it would sound like on an aftermarket headunit so I can't compare the difference. But for me it sounds just fine.

cool,I'm glad everything worked out for you, and it didn't cost that much. Sorry i didn't see your question sooner, but no you don't lose your back speakers if you splice off them. Anyone know what colour of the rear speaker wires coming off the head unit wire harness are?

There is a simple solution. Call around too your local Car stereo repair places and see in any of them can add preamp non fading RCA outs to your stock headunit. Most people don't think of things like that, but it's not hard to do.
