Question Problem?

So I've had some troubles in the past with my Alero and I've been pretty lucky on finding out whats wrong and how to fix it but I got a new problem...

Problem:
a.) Service Engine Soon light flips on
b.)engine temperature gauge isn't showing the temperature once it warms up.
c.)my engine fans are blowing hardcore like my care is hot (which it is not hot it was like 30 degrees outside and I just started the car)
d.) it just started doing this then it quit for about a week and started again.

Analysis / Conclusion:
Maybe my Thermostat went out?

Anyone have any ideas or have had similar problems?

alerored04 is an unknown quantity at this point
Midgear is right. I had the same thing happen. It is a really easy fix, the temp sensor is in the thermostat housing and has a wire going into it.

Check your coolant, mine went off one time when the coolant got low. If coolant is not low than the sensor and then if not the sensor then the thermo.

temperature sensor

the thermostat not working would cause:
a) car would never get warmed up if stuck open
b) car would overheat after getting to operating temperature, it'd keep rising

1 make sure your fluid is good and filled
2 go to autozone or equivilant and get a replacement temp sensor
