Thumbs up

I am going to buy a new battery becasue my freedom AcDelco 600CCA(cold cranking amps) battery is crapped out now.

I was wondering if anyone here knows if it is safe to get a battery that is 700cca or even as high as 800cca (cold cranking amps) as my new replacement. Cause if I buy a replacment battery I want it to be a good one or better than the one that came stock in the Alero.

Also if the higher amperage battery is safe to use with my Alero, is it really worth it to pay the extra for the higher amps.?

Note: The engine is the 2.4litre. All the electonics is stock and no extra accessories. Sound system is factory.

thanks

What's important is the COLD cranking amps. The higher the better, will not hurt the car. The main function of the battery is to turn the starter. Once the engine is running, your running off the alternator. The only problem with higher CCA is that the batteries are usually larger and may not fit in the small space that the Alero's have. If you live in an area where the temperature gets very cold in the winter the higher CCA the better. I try to get as high as the space will allow. On my Alero I still have the original battery. When I replaced the battery in my Trans Am, I bought an Optima with 750 CCA, I would have gotten more CCA, but the batteries wouldn't fit. The space is limited on the Trans AM like the Alero.

I just recently replaced my stock battery. I went with a Optima Yellow top, model 34/78 with 750 CCA. It is bigger than the stock battery and requires a little cutting of the holder. But it is extremly easy to do. I went with this battery because of what I plan to do with the car in the future. This battery has both side and top terminals, which provides an alternative + trerminal to hook up accesories to, such as Amps.

but if you dont plan on having a huge system or any extra accesories then a red top would do u just fine. the red top 34/78 has 800 CCA, but again this battery will also require u to modify the holder.

Just picked up the Optima 75/35 720 CCA fits perfectly without modifications. The base of the battery is 7x9......same as the space in the Alero.

My battery just crapped out aswell, I just bought a AcDelco with 750CCA for my replacement since I have my system to power also. The place I went to recommended Optima also but they just didn't carry the one I needed to fit in my car so I had to go with the AcDelco. No problem though. Hopefully I'll avoid getting the acid corrosion build up this time since I have a stronger battery now.
