New sub box question

I am in the process of building a huge box to fit on my back seat for 2 kicker 12's. It is also going to have the amps and cap in between the subs, inside the box, with a plexi cover.

Just take a look at my sweet paint picture i made...

The question is... should i port the subs to the center of the box to maybe cool the amps, or wire in a couple fans. I am just worried about the amps getting over heated while they are enclosed in a box. Ideas?

Ok, where to start...

From the top.

Putting a box on you back seat is a terrible idea. Most of these boxes never sound that well. It also adds to the "steal me" factor. Ive had boxes on my rear seats before, never cared for it. Always been louder in the trunk due to cabin gain.

Next.

Porting the subs towards the amps isnt a good idea. First reason is unless the port is a 1 1/2 diameters worth away from any object you will be impeding the port. Thus effectively changing the ports properties to something incalculable.

Second- What goes out comes in. So the aire in the port is acting like a spring- pushing back and forth. It doesnt "blow" it doesnt "suck"- it doest both equally.

I would go for the fans if your die hard into this box. But a dollar to a dough nut says it will be louder in the trunk by a very measurable/noticeable amount.

Oh yeah, i totally agree with you when it comes to volume differences in the trunk and back seat.

I just want it to look good and i do not want anyone in my back seat. I got white carpet in my car and the less people, the better.

I think i am going to just take the casing off the amps and hook 12v computer fans to them. It should look good and should cool it enough if it works.

I am also looking for a couple more kickers in the future, which might just go in the trunk. Who knows...

Nevermind the backseat. I have no idea what i want to do. This box is just about done, but now i got second thoughts. So i think i am going to redesign it for the trunk(wont fit right now). But the basic principle behind the box is the same (subs + amp rack in one).

Decisions decisions...

Negative!

The heat sinks are there for a reason! The FETS are screwed down to it. So Im doubting you will be doing that

Yep, i was reading that. I came to the conclusion that i am just going to run about 4 computer fans (2 in 2 out). 2 should be enough, but 4 will just look cool. No ports, keeping cases, and im lost after that... i have no idea what my plans are with this thing
