Started my fiberglass trunk

I started making my fiberglass enclosure for my trunk today. It is 3 pieces, so I can easily remove it from the trunk if needed. Then there will be a fiberglass cover to go over the whole thing to make it look like one piece.

Here is what I got so far...

I still got some kinks to work out, like the trunk hinges being in the way, but besides that there isn't too much else. It fits perfect and hopefully still will when it gets glassed.

I will be adding more pictures as I go along.

Just noticed this... the timestamp is WAY off. I really just did this.

Looks like a great design for a box. How is it your splitting it into 3 pieces? Def keep pics updated. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

don't you want to have the speaker rings cut out before glassing them ?

The wheel well pieces that hold the amps are separate from the middle section. I will glass them at the same height so they look like the same. Then, I am just going to fiberglass a cover over it so it all looks like one piece.

I saw someone else do it this way... so i decided to try it. But i am not sure if I wanna do it like that. It probably would be easier to cut them now instead of doing it when it has multiple layers of glass on it.

Ok, so I got the enclosure glued down and wrapped with fleece last night and couldn't resist to start fiberglassing. Now I just got done with my 2nd coat of glass and it seems to be coming out good.

And with fiberglass...

This has been a pain to get to fit right in my trunk. The only problem that I am facing now is the side amp pieces. I got them looking the way I want, but when I went to fit it, the trunk hinges hit on one side. So after a couple hours of tweaking, I got them to fit a way I like but know I dont know how I am going to fiberglass them. I am thinking about just wrapping them in fleece them making a piece to fit over them cosmetically and just reinforce them with wood underneath.

I was so pissed last night that I even thought about getting actuators to lift my trunk straight up. Talk about building a car around the stereo... It still seems like a cool idea and I know it would work fairly good but right now I dont even have money for another gallon of fiberglass...

So thats where the project stand at the moment. I cant wait till its done!

Oh and please, someone tell me that the trunk is the same on a 4 dr as it is on a 2...

if you cut the tops off the "tubs" for the amps it would still look okay and the amps will kinda cover it up aaannd it migt solve you hinge issue.

Same... and since someone talked me out of building a boxc for my backseat... I wanted to do something just as big.

I have too many projects going on... this trunk project, custom tails, projectors, switch panel... err TOO MANY!
