Clutch Issues Help Asap Please!

I am having big issues with my car got back from the Us the other day and my clutch seems to be slipping.. seems like between 2-3-4 and fifth if I am going along pretty good the rpm jumps up and down and acts funny. So to me I think its the clutch and many others said so too.. issue is I gots no money I got a quote from GM its going to be like $1700.00 to fix...

Now I also priced a flywheel and clutch and kit with everything needed its a Fidanza flywheel and exedy clutch and all the tools needed for 469.00 US plus $30.00 shipping.. I could do that and would have a better set-up for the way I drive.. issue is I would have to barrow that money.. and as per the labour could a guy attempt to do this himself?? or no??? any suggestions anyone?? PLEASE

I have a 2.2 Ecotec 5 speed.
HELP PLEASE GUYS!
Dano\

Wow, how many kms do you have on the car needing a clutch already? If it's slipping while you're driving with your foot off the pedal, it's probably pretty accurate that your clutch isn't going to last much longer.

You could do it yourself if you're comfortable removing the transmission.

I dunno 100% about the Ecotec...but I know on the 2.4 I changed the clutch in it while I was doin the motor swap...and I really don't think I woulda changed it with everything still in the car...there's just no room to split the tranny/engine and get the clutch changed and aligned right...as far as your flywheel, I'd have it checked before buyin another, if you're lucky you'll be able to do like I did and have it resurfaced.

Good luck

a clutch is easy. your clutch is more than likely slipping so get a new one and as for your flywheel, you can just get it resurfaced. i don't know how to take the tranny out of an alero, i've never looked close enough when it was in the air. if you can get the tranny out the rest is easy until you put it back in. me and my buddy attempted it last christmas on his 88 optima which is now mine. the clutch sliced the service plate in two. when we took it all apart, the only thing that was left of the clutch was the center piece and all the springs were broken and the pressure plate snapped in two places. we got the flywheel resurface and reman clutch and the bitch took off. it took maybe 6 or seven hours on a lift. we didn't know what we were doing.

sorry didn't mean to steal you thread or anything....

thing with an alero is, either you drop it from the bottom(big job) or take out everything from the top(just as big a job) there's no way you can squeeze the tranny out unless you have the engine supported a certain way, and even there.

I've never looked at it on my Alero, but on my beretta i can tilt the engine/trans on enough of an angle to get it out with only disconnecting the subframe and trans mount. Done that (4) more times than i cared for.

Just a update if anyone cares... Now running a fiDanza Aluminum Flywheel and Exedy cluth.. ended up getting it installed for 250 Cash... and man does that flywheel make a difference.. and also I was reading MODIFIED MAG and it states that for the Ecotec the Fidanze flywheel is one if the best upgrades inproves crank life.. and gives it faster higher REVS and more HORSES!!!

I am soo happy with this set-up I would highly recommend!

how does installing a clutch give you more horsepower? Did you put a tornado in too?

Go back and read that one again.. The lightweight flywheel gives more horsepower. Less rotating mass FTW!
