as far as buffing what compounds and other products would you recomend? I have been looking at the 3m product line Perfect-It 3000.

http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/a...ler/output_html

I am thinking I will need a gallion of the final glaze, rubbing compound and swirl mark remover.. Am I right?

if wet sanded with 1,200 all ya need is a cutting compound and then the polishing glaze
using the cutting pad and then the polishing pad
no need for a gallon though

ok so i would not use 2082 again old technology, i would use dcu 2042 or dcu 2021 mixed with dx61, ratio is 4:1:1 flexed with dx 814 4:2:2:1
i would go with the dbc system and get dx 57 it activates the base coat sprays much better flater mettalics lay much flatter
primer i would use ncp271 mixed with 275 ratio is 3:1
sealer ncs 2004 or 2005 ratio is 2:1
so i would do it one time, fix all the poopty body work and re paint it and be done with the car

I'll have to see if the local place stocks that stuff next time I have to tinker with some bodywork. It would be nice if it works that much better.

one more question. Would it be easier to paint a solid color vs something with a metallic in the paint?

HOK is a PITA to spray. definitely only for an experienced painter only.

HOK is very transparent if I remember correctly. It must be sprayed over a silver or colored base and if sprayed wrong will leave the paint looking blochy.

Ok I think I am about to buy the stuff I need but I am unsure on how much of everything I need. Too much and it could cost me a lot more money then I need to spend and too little and I am running to the store while painting.

Starting with the clear.

DCU2021
Ratio: DCU2021:ReducerCX61 Ratio 4:1:1 (Hard Surface)
Ratio: DCU2021:ReducerCX61X814 Ratio: 4:1:2:2 (Flex)

So I am thinking I am going to need
2 Quarts of DCU2021
1 Quart of DT Reducer
2 Quarts of DCX61
1 Quart of DX814

Color Coat I am going to go with Deltron 2000 DBC

I do not know the Ratio for this yet, PPGnut maybe you can fill me in here. I’m going to need 1 Gallon of spray. I am going to go with Dodge color code PXR

NCP271 (Primer)
Ratio: NCP271T Reducer: NCP275 Ratio: 3:1/2:1

Needed
3 Quarts of NCP271
Pint of DT Reducer
Quart of NCP290

NSC2004 (Sealer)
Ratio: NSC2004T Reducer:NCX2200 Ratio: 2:1:1

I’m thinking around a ?
Quart or two of NSC2004
Pint of DT Reducer
Pint of NCX2200

The DT Reducer will depend on the temp but I am thinking DT870 or DT885

Feedback please... Thanks

The primer and sealer proved to be very hard to find and out of my reach. The shop ended up hooking me up with some good primer. I did end up getting the clear coat and = to a gallion of paint. Everything cost 769.00 and that is with the compound and glaze so I think I did ok. He cut me a few breaks too so saved a bit there as well. Thanks everyone for your help and input, I may have other questions as I am doing to job and I will be sure to post them. I will also be starting a thread in showcase giving updates an pictures on the car as I do it.

the ratio for dbc is 1;1 activated with dx 57 1:1 to 5%
i highly recomend using dx 57 the base will lay down much flatter if this is metalic color you will see a huge difference in how the base sprays helps dry better too
the dt reducer again varies on the temp in the shop or in the booth
you need to apply the 15 degree rule here, 75 in the booth use 85 temp reducer
there is no need for flex if the bumpers will stay on the car so elimanate that product

Thanks. The guys at the shop said that the DBU system I am using (Deltron 2000 DBC basecoat). This base coat only needs a reducer. The reducer I am using is the DT885 so it will dry slowly and allow for the paint to smoth out. My main concern is the orange peel and I think the DT885 is going to help with that. Can I use the hardener DX57 with this paint?

As far as setting the HLVP guns up I am going to follow the tech sheets on that. I can't wait to get started.

where is the sealer?? and why on gods green earth did ya buy the 250?? that stuff is junk andout dated and it`s not corrosion resistant primer
shops stopped using it due to it`s not a high build primer, and every sand scratch kept on coming up after the bake cycle
return it and get the ncp 271, don`t forget the sealer
everything else looks fine

I called somewhere in the range of 10 PPG shops and they all said that they didnt show NCP 271 in their systems. I talked with a few body shops and this is what they are all buying down in VA. I'm not saying your wrong and that the 250 is better then the 271, Im just saying I could not find the 271 so I had to get something.

Say I return this would I be able to get the primer from you and sealer? The shop also said I would not need the sealer with this primer and that it was a corrosion resistant primer thats why i got it.
