i've seen some people with like 3 switches right beneath their Head Unit on their car. i think some refer them as the switches for their underbody lights but i've never seen that before so im not sure.

im asking this because i've been reading about how to put lights in the vents and in the doors, and i want like a little switchboard underneath my deck that controls all of that. can that be done? can somebody make a How To on that?

i'm all over this one.

i have switches... actually its a custom plate i made out of aluminum. (just go get some L shaped aluminum from a hardware store, and take two pieces of it, make it into a U and slide it in there. )

My Total Setup (can't see the doors through) its all Led work, so if you have any other questions....

[attachmentid=9313]

Switch Plate...

[attachmentid=9312]

The way i'm holding it, is the way its been in my car for the last year. i just recently flipped it around, and rotated the switches. (yes, they are different, just look the same)
(The setup shown) The left most switch, is a center off switch. moving it up will turn on my blue floor cathodes. Moving it down, turned on the UV cathodes. The right most was the remote switch for my amp. which also turned on the LED's that light up the water bottle, and the Alero symbol in my cup holder. (so i knew when my amp was on) The middle switch wasn't used.

THE NEW SETUP
(as of next week)
the plate is flipped around. (2 on the right, one on the left) The Right most will turn my floor lights blue or red. the middle will switch between red or blue interior lights (vents, doors, etc) and the right most will stay as my amp switch.

its insane to wire all that. i'll get pics. i have to tear everything out, add the reds and rewire it all in a sane manner.

man that is disgusting!!!!

i wish you were my next door neighbor....

i read the How Tos on the lights in vents and doors. can you make one for the L-shaped aluminum and how to hook up the wires to that....sorry if it seems like a lot to explain but that setup is sick. especially how you got the light behind the alero sign....

this weekend i'll get some switch plate pics.

i gotta take it out and mess with it anyway.

and heres the ashtray....

http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?sho...313&hl=ash+tray

all you need for all of this is a soldering gun, dremel, hot glue gun, a bunch of wire and some time. (usually takes me an entire day, because i mess something up and have to trace through it all to find where i made the mistake. )

the switches are just simple radioshack switches. they have a bunch you just gotta search though and find what you like. the plate was pretty simple....

its an L shape, so you measure how far you want (don't remember the length or width) but i measured it out, cut two pieces, put one upside down in the other so it formed a U. (already stated that.) you actually have to sand it down to make it fit. it takes a while, but it was worth it. (i'm not gonna tell ya how i dremeled the biohazard sign out... get a dremel and an engraving bit, then commit about 8 hours worth of straight grinding)

held together with some epoxy inbetween and a small screw on each end. then just measured out the spaces and drilled holes for the switches.

right most is a Double Pull Double Throw other two are Single Pull Double Throw.

DPDT= Center off style switch, there are 6 contacts on the back, 2 rows of 3 contacts. You don't have to use all of them. only one row.

-- } top is power going TO Light #1.
-- } middle is power coming IN to the switch
-- } bottom is power going TO Light #2

The power coming in is a constant (always on) 12V power source. so if you want the lights on, all you need to do it flip the switch.

like i said, i'll post pics later. its quite complicated to look at, so i'll try my best to make it understandable.

hey i actually went to autozone today and found a cheap little switch to buy. because in all honesty, i know very little about electricity and all that stuff you were saying was gibberish to me lol.

so basically i hooked up a neon tube to the switch and powered it from an old adapter to my wall. anyways i got a little 'electrical' background experience working with that.

then i got to thinkin that maybe i dont wanna go thru all that drilling and sanding. so i started looking for other places to put the switch. so i unscrewed that thing between the seats and SURPRISINGLY the switch i bought fit PERFECTLY inside that little gap. heres a pic

[attachmentid=9317]

heres what it looks like right from the store in case anybody is interested. pic kinda blurry, sorry bout that.........

[attachmentid=9318]

it was only 4 dollars from autozone, so im thinkin that i might get a couple more to control all my interior lights. hopefully this will work out as planned!

pretty decent. and if you soldered those leds on the switch, don't bother putting tape on them.. there is no way that they will touch, unless the switch breaks in half. lol

oh, and i found a small pic of what my center console looks like...

BEWARE!!!

[attachmentid=9319]

the shiney red are all the lighting wires i have run. powers and grounds. no rhyme or reason. (95% of the reason i have to re-run everything) it takes me 20 mintues just to find a wire that goes to something, then another 5 to figure out which is the power.... the problem when you do it the quick way, and not the sane way...

the only difference with mine was i wanted full access to my control from right there, and i wanted to keep everything looking professional. (no wires showing anywhere) so i took some extra time and did things the long way, give it some extra bling. lol

Here are a couple pics of my console. i will put more switches next the the rocker switch when i have more time, money, and a use for them. The far left controls my underbody lights, the middle is a cut off between the power source and rem. turn on wire on my amp and the red rocker controls my led's in my vents.

P.S. The knick on the right side was one of my friends doing. I plan to fix that soon. And also the fiberglass is fairly unfinished i still have to bondo, sand, prime, and repaint it i just threw some paint on their when i was moving so i could put it back in my car and have it look decent

i'm aware. personally, i find it much easier to work with the slightly thicker wire... and i had 100ft of it... so its what i started using. lol

i looked around for lighted switches like those, but couldn't find any place that sells them for a resonable price. i have found the "safety switches" so many people use, for like $15 per. F* That! its only a switch!

What the best way to attach these switch plates????? i'd like input from several different people who have different "styles" like silent, cherrington, pimpalero, and alerocar.
