New Sub
So I just picked this up:
It works, though I'm not completely sure of the specifications (I bought it from two girls, they didn't know anything about it). It was just too good to pass up for the price. Right now I'm just cleaning it up a bit, it's clearly been sitting around for quite some time but physically it's in good condition.
What do you think it's worth?

I would say about $60 tops.
Thats a prefabbed bandpass from Best Buy with a RF sub also from best buy.
The sub isnt horrible by any means, but not to spectacular.
The box, well thats a piece of dung.

Damn, I was hoping it would be nicer than that lol. Could you recommend an amp to drive it?
Thanks for the input.

You will have to pull the subwoofer out of the box and write down the part number of the sub. There is three different subs this may be.

Alright, got it.
Size: 12"
RMS: 50-200 watts
Peak: 400 watts
Impedance: 8 ohms
Sensitivity: 87.6 dB at 1 volt
Frequency response: 28 - 200 Hz
The model number RFP3812.
It also states that it has a 2" voice coil.

If your sub is an 8 Ohm model you got shafted.
So your going to need a 400 WRMS x 1 @ 4 Ohms to drive it.
800 WRMS x 1 @ 2 Ohms
16000 WRMS x 1 @ 1 Ohms
To drive it.
Sell that thing off.

for a RF that really isn't a very good sub at all. 8 ohm is messed up, why would there even be a sub at 8 ohm. its just that much harder to find a good amp to power it.

Sounds good, thanks for the help.
I'm curious though, what makes the box a bad box?

and how's that for nerding it up?

Hey now. I got a JBL Bandpass enclosure for 100 bucks off a guy. 300wrms. And I love the sound, it gives me the little bump i was looking for, without the hassle of building a big god-awful box.

I have a JBL sub in my home system, had it since 1978. Still rockin' !!
I haven't heard the new stuff, though. You used to be able to get the raw drivers from JBL, don't think you can now.

Your first statement was very noobish.
This latest is very broad. RE does make some good subs though.

jbl is for people that want pure loudness and not a lot of quality of sound. and thats only if you get their expensive stuff.
