I changed the brake pads of my alero a couple of weeks ago and now when i stop it shakes the crap out of my car. I took it back to the dealership and they told me nothing was wrong with it and that the brakes are just getting worn in. I dont believe that because it is getting worse. Anybody know what to do ?
Thanks
Justin

Your rotors are most likely warped, what kind of pads did you use? when I replaced my front I used Bendix Titanium Pads and my car shakes a little bit at slower speeds.

I dont know what the pads were. The dealership replaced them. They are probably ac delco or something like that. One of my friends said that the rotor might be warped but it still looks like it is in good condition

What everyone else said about your rotors, they are warped. Whatever you do, do not use replacements from GM. They are too expensive and they will just warp again.

What kind of rotors does anybody recommend? I do not know all that much about brakes so i do not know what to do. I've heard that the cross drilled rotors are pretty good.
Thanks

I'd personally say take the power-slots over the drilled rotors... reading the reviews and what have you, seems like they work a little better... anyone agree/disagree?

I have RSM slotted rotors and they work quite well and they are inexpensive.

Well i'll have to disagree since I have a pair of powerslots up front. I put them in in april and they are already warping and have a couple hot spots. Most shops can't turn them cause of the slots. I paid a ton of money for these rotors and they haven't even lasted as long as my stocks did. issed: I need to find some good replacements but am at a loss at which i should get now. I thought i was getting high quality...but i got junk. Well..maybe i shouldn't be too harsh. I think powerslots are more for racing....and my car is a daily driver.

Do you drive your car hard, mike? Vulgar had those on his ride before he traded them in, and he had nothing bad to say about them....Maybe you just got a bum set? I always thought those were top-notch in quality?

Depends what you call driving hard. I don't race at all with my car. I'm a soft braker..maybe a couple times i slammed the brakes to avoid deer..but not to often. Maybe it's my pads..i dunno. I have the performance friction pads which again I thought were top quality. The pads are fine...hardly any wear. But I drive my car about 100miles everday..so it's not alot of town stop and go driving either. Maybe i did get a bum set..maybe not. I just can't afford taking the chance and getting these rotors again.

you all must be insanely hard on brakes cause ive never had a problem with my rotors. i had like 90,000 miles on my first set then the slider froze and ground the pad down into bare metal. i HAVE had problems with the caliper slider pins freezin up though.

sorry to bring back such an old thread, but i just got my pads replaced with ceramic ones from the dealership. They wanted $100 to turn my front rotors and $100 to turn the back ones so i said screw it, i'll buy aftermarket rotors. I hear slotted ones are harder on your pads (kinda makes sense)so i'm going with only crossdrilled ones that i will be buying and putting on myself in a couple weeks. My question is about those slider pins. I got the high temp grease for brakes, how do i put it on and where.

Once you take the brake calipers off you simply remove the dust boot from the bolt and pull the bolt out. It's best if you can clean the wholes out, let them dry and reapply fresh grease, but I don't have the patience for that. Plus it's a blind hole so it's pretty hard to clean out. The best thing to do is clear out as much greas eas you can and reapply the fresh grease. Don't apply too much though you could wind up with the pins locked!!! The grease will get stuck on the end of the pin and you won't be able to compress your caliper! Moderation is the key...

I didn't know GM dealerships had ceramic brakes for our cars? When I checked with them, all the had was the same CRAP that came on them from the factory and they were like $80. The OEM pads SUCK. I got my ceramics from some parts company online.
