Niu-B from Germany

Hi everyone,

I'm from Germany and since Tuesday this week I'm a proud owner of an Oldsmobile (Chevrolet) Alero

It's a 1999 model in gold metallic and it has the 3.4 V6 engine. It has about 70.000km (about 43000 miles). I don't know exactly the outfit type, I'm not sure if there were much in Germany and if they were the same like in US...

Alero was sold as Chevrolet in Germany, but yesterday I ordered the original Olds-Emblems for front and back

It's my first US-Car, I used to drive Honda before. I changed now cause there was no model available which I could pay for, neither in purchase nor in upkeep...

Hope I have no problem with the Alero, currently there are some small things which don't work (heater blower on first two steps and handbrake), but overall I'm very satisfied with the car. Very smooth ride and the engine seems to be very good, I like it's style overall

Welcome!
If the fan doesn't work on the first two steps it's the blower motor resistor, very common problem on these cars, located under the dash on the passenger side. Handbrake probably just needs to be tightened.

Thanks 2 all.

Yeah, the dealer meant the garage where he had the car has already changed the resistor.....I'm not sure.
How big is the chance that the switch itself is damaged? Is this also a known problem? Otherwise, I think it's the best if I check the resistor if they have really changed it.....I assume you see if it is broken, don't you?

I really wish to do some small changes, but you don't get parts for Alero in Germany. Additionally, you need for nearly all parts permission paper for german TÜV which is a problem which US-Users don't have.

He might've put a defective one in. The switch itself usually isn't a problem. The blower motor resistor isn't that hard to check, just a pain in the ass to get out. You can usually see burn marks inside it if it's gone.
