foglight switch problem

So I turn on my foglight switch and the light does not light up on the switch
and lights don't turn on at all. Sometimes the switch will work but it randomly stops working and will not turn on at all? Is this a relay or wire problem and is it hard to fix and get at?

Thanks a lot

It could possibly be a loose connection somewhere. Or maybe a short?

If it was a short, the fuse would have blown...

Check the switch connections in the back... Do you use the switch often? Could just be worn out and needs replacing.... I just keep mine on all the time.

Should I just pop off that whole piece with the vent..don't want to damage it...hard to get off to check switch connection?

is it possible that the foglights are burned out too??? *I think* that if they are burned out, that it wouldn't complete the circuit and also not light up the switch. **need verification, I'm not sure exactly how it's wired**

I recently replaced the bulbs and they worked for a bit then turned off and the switch and they would not light up with it back in the on position. I am going to pop off the vent cover and see what's going on. Thanks for all the help guys.

Well, they won't come on during the day, unless you set the lights to on manually, try that, especially if they always work at night.

No, I usually just wait until its dark, and leave my lights an automatic setting then turn on the fog switch. The switch will light up in the on position maybe for 30 seconds then go dark, with the actual lights will not turn on at all or the switch. I was searching ebay and the switch is about 30 bucks, and there is also a relay too.

Now, I just put Leds in for the fogs, but it was doing this before I put the new fog lights in. Other than that I got a HID kit installed, and noticed one of the hid wires from the ballast is touching my fog wire or right next to it, but I don't think both of these would have anything to do with the switch not staying lit in the on position?

Speaking of relay, it is a definite possibility that it may be a relay issue. The relay is located in the passenger side fuse box. I'm not quite too sure how to test relays but you could just try putting in a new one.

Pull a relay for something that you know works (power seats for example) and put it in the spot for the fogs. If they start working you've found the problem, and it's time to buy a new relay.

So, I swapped the fuse, and that did not seem to help. I then pulled out the switch and tested the wires to the switch, they are good, then I replaced the switch with another used one...same thing. It came on for a bit..then just went dark with it still in the on position. Must be a loose connection somewhere..not sure what to check next, or do next? Maybe buy a 2004 switch???

Sounds like a loose/bad ground to me. I'd trace those down and make sure they are all good.

So this is very weird...I turn my car off with the key out of the ignition and my switch stays lit up. Then I turned it to the off position and it still is lit up with the engine off and no key in ignition??? Also sometimes the light will stay lit in the off position but not the on position with key in. So I don't know if the switch is bad or power problem. Going to disconnect the battery for 30 min and start car...just really weird and try and find where the wires go...they are deep in the dash I believe!

if you take out the ash tray under the dimmer/fog lamp switch then just press out on the bottom of it and the whole unit slides out easily, no prying required. hey atleast your car don't try starting with no keys in it like mine lol.

Damn aleros...I love my car but sometimes its just irritating. When it comes to electrical issues it can be hard to diagnose!

Hey bud i was messing with my fog lamp switch today and somehow I managed to get my led's to run half power when my fog lamp switch is off then full blow when its on. All i did was add a few more led's to the switch panel and this is the outcome. I have NO idea if the load is to large or it apparently changed something with the constant current? Not sure but I see where you are coming from with your fog lamps light staying on when u power off.....Odd....

BTW don't waste your time with leaving battery unplugged, I left it unplugged for two hours and absolutely nothing has changed whatsoever. Yeah it might reset some shit but unless your car is running really shitty then don't bother.
