Rearview Mirror Rattle
Hey guys, I recently put a 400w RMS, 12" Kenwood subwoofer with a 1200w pioneer amp and pioneer deck, in my car and it sounds great except for when it hits higher notes. When it hits the deeper lows it's great, but the highs rattle my rearview mirror an insane amount.
It makes my music sound so horrible, that I have to turn the bass control way down to the point that it sounds like just my 6x9's are moving. (I think it is actually the windshield transferring the vibrations to the mirror.)
Anyways, I searched and didn't find anything about dampening the mirror. I was possibly thinking about taking the mirror apart and filling it with dense foam. But, I'm really lost. I was just wondering if anybody had a link or tips to help.

Adjust the crossover on the amp to reduce the highs.

The crossover? Like the gain? Or Hz? Sorry I'm kinda new to audio. I set this up myself. Did I do something wrong? It's a Mono Block Class D amp by the way.
Yes I am sure it is. I've dampened my license plate and everything else. And when I grab it during the highs that make it rattle, it stops.
I was even thinking getting bow hunting rubber vibration-absorbing cubes to stock to the mirror. Anybody ever heard of this?

No one has heard of using sound dampeners for your bowstring on your mirror. You could just get some small pieces of weather-stripping foam and put them in whatever gap there may be.
Set your lpf to 80Hz... or closer to 100Hz honestly if you listen to a lot of rock. If you set your gain right then your subs shouldn't be any problem. You can't really be that picky as to what frequencies the subs pick up... lol

Ok well I'll try that. I think it's set too high. Lol I may end up just taking it apart and filling it with foam. The rattle sounds just so absolutely horrid.. Haha

Mine was rattling with music playing, until I slammed my head off it while working on the ignition and knocked it off, I ended up krazy gluing it to the windshield and no more rattle!

theres a solution to this
Afugy did it to my mirror at the show in cuyahoga falls.
spread the mirror apart at the top and bottom and stick one of those crazy thin alan wrenches in it. put either weather stripping or 3M VHB tape in there. i had the same problem- annoyed the crap out of me and this completely solved it 100%. only problem from there and the mirror would just look straight down anytime the bass hit. now THATS annoying

I had the same problem. And i just tightened it down as far as the screw would go, this was like 2 years ago, and no issues since

that comes from the base of the mirror being loose and rattling around. the other kind is where the actual mirror piece inside flaps around

Just one thing is, I would not try to do this outside when its cold, as the plastic will be harder to work with and the glass is more likely to chip.
