wheel bearing

hey i just replaced my pass. side last night. well all went well till i drove the car. the nosie is not as loud but still there I bought the timken from autozone.

my question what brand wheel bearings is everybody useing and i you are useing timken are you having any problems with it

i worked at autozone for about 2 years and have had many of this style(manliy part number) come back because of my same problem or that the timken pops when backing up

just curious to see what other brands are out there?

i work at advance auto parts and we have NTP/national its just that hubs for our cars are just crap.. about a year or so and the sensors are messed up and the bearing is still good. i dont know what brand the dealers use but the one i got from them, passenger side also, been about 3 years and the sensor acts up now and then.. so it all depends on how much u want to spend.

i just looked up these i dont know how well they might be but worth a try for the price

well i called a couple of my mechanic friends and asked them what they thought one of them told me about a grand am he was working on he went thru 2 new wheel bearings and then napa started questioning him on if he knew what he was doing, so he said give me another one and i will put it on the other side so pretty much he changed side of the car to see if the noise followed the wheel bearing well it did change sides
so i tried it to and guess what napa and autozone wheel bearings are crap i am going to buy oem form dealer some time

you sure its the wheel bearing then? timken wheel bearings are the best aftermarket ones from autozone. GM bearings are next in line.

I suppose it can happen that a new part is defective. But please don't go with OEM, or you risk having to change them as fast as the two others.

when u had it off, did you hand turn the bearing? to feel the movements. I just changed a wheel bearing this weekend. Mine would make noise only when i the car accelerated. like a ticking noise. So when i had the wheel bearing off, you can feel the bearings isn't smooth.

but i doubt the autozone and napa bearing would have the noise still there. odds of that happening on 2 new bearings is pretty slim. unless you got bad luck. LOL

i called a good friend of mine that works at midas and he said bring it in and we will check it out they have this really neat machine it is a amplified stehoscope they hook it to the front wheel bearing hub bolts and drove the started the car on the hoist and used this machine to listen to the sound of the wheel bearings and i found out that the one that i bought form napa was not making any noise at all and the one that i have not replaced (because i thought that it wasnt bad) sounded like it was going to fly off the car any min
so having said all of that MIDAS is the best place to go IMO

Damn I must be lucky! I have gotten 130,000 miles out of one of mine on my 2000 coupe. The other one was replaced prolly 50,000 miles ago. Now one of them is starting to make a humming kind of noise at around 45-55 mph. Prolly gonna replace them both. Anybody had any good or bad luck with the ones that are selling on eBay?

The 2.4's seem to last longer than the ones on the 3.4. They have Federal Mogul, also. Which are good for bearing design, but the sensors don't last too long.
