Selling...need best route
My Alero just hit 95k and I don't trust it enough to ride it out to the end. The only known problem with it right now is the security light comes on and I can't start it for 10 minutes.
My first question is if anyone knows how much it should cost to fix this problem when I bring it to a mechanic. Can I tell him exactly whats wrong to save some time on the labor meter?
Also how much should I ask for it? It drives mint and quiet. The paint still shines like new but the interior is pretty worn out. No rips or anything but a few cig burns from the previous owner and the glass over the gauges is cracked. Also the paint is half worn off of the radio controls.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have spotted the car I want and want to move this along quickly.

Dont trust!!? I was drivin my alero boosted on stock parts w/ 165,000 + miles and had no problem whatsoever. That security light if im not mistaken(somebody correct me if I am wrong) by a faulty passlock module or faulty ignition....
I had the same issue happen about 3 times but it didnt hurt nothing...I think they see undo your battery for 10-15 min to make it go away

I don't know man. Cost me 1k to replace the head gasket 5k miles ago. The car jerks while it's idle in drive, the loud clicking before it starts just doesn't sound healthy and every now and then i'll be on the highway going 70 and the service like comes on flickering then stops when i get off the highway...it's just not a healthy motor...I'd rather someone else deal with whatever it decides to do (or stop doing) in the future.

I wouldn't pay money to fix the passlock, lots of people here have spent lots of money trying to have it fixed the right way and then it just happens all over again with the new parts. See if you can find someone to do the bypass for you, that costs almost nothing.

yea the only thing that works is the bypass, pop off your gauge cluster and i belive its the yellow wire going to the ignition? id check first tho, you cut that and run boths ends through a toggle switch and your passlock free , better than the 1k they were trying to charge

yeah what I'm going to do is go to a dealership service center and explain that to them. I'm sure they've delt with this problem before. It just sucks cause I found a car that I want for really cheap and I hope I can get this done before someone picks it up. Thanks for the advice fellas.
