I have a 2004 alero gls w/ monsoon system and pioneer h/u and a orion 600d amp going to 2 eclipse 87 series subs using all 4ga power/ground wires. the subs are popping whenever I change the radio station. where's a good location to put the sub ground? is it a ground problem or could it be something else? any help's greatly appreciated.

It doesn't sound like a ground issue. More than likely your gain is set to high. Other options may be the amp needing a quiet turn on or the HU having noise while changing sources. Are you using a factory HU with LOC? What amp model do you have and what is the input voltage requirements. (hint. Look at the gain and see what it says. Like .2 to 8 volt.)
What model of the 87's do you have? I had a 8715 two years ago.

Sorry about not seeing the orion and pioneer HU. What are the specs for the amp input and the HU voltage.

I can't find information on the pioneers preout voltage. Everything is simply stating high voltage preout. Most of the pioneers I have seen were 2.7 volts. I would check your gains at first. A well matched amp and head unit will have very low gain settings. My 8454 HU has 8 volts RMS prior to clipping. The amp will except up to eight volts. My HU clipps out on a scope at nearly 95 percent of max volume. That means that if I were running subs on my amp (which may want a very high volume) the gains should be just past the 8 volt setting or turned almost off. Since I run my front and rear speakers on this amp,and the volume is normaly at fourty to fifty percent, I can raise my gains to a quarter turn. Either way, the gains are very low. If I go much higher a audible hiss is induced into the sytem. If you can turn the gain down and eliminate the pop, then is a good place to start. If it doesn't help, then try swapping the sub out line with a rear channel rca to eliminate a defective channel.
