BIG HELP or otherwise the Alero is gone

okay Ive read on here a long time ago about the aleros having the secruity feature that locks out even the owner. Well its been happening ALOT to my girls alero. Now we installed an alarm at the same time I thought that would solve the problem since they had to install a bypass something.

Well I know the routine

put the key in the on position with the doors closed for 10 min. then it will start.

Well now my girl is considering trading her Alero just cause of that, and I dont blame her.

So please help! What do I do to prevent or fix this manufacturer error

Like a brand new fresh key cut at the manufacturer.

Otherwise get a new ignition cylinder.

And it that don't work.. BCM computer maybe. But then you're talkin bigger bucks.

Does the alarm has remote start? If the passlock was bypass, how was it bypass? soldered on resistor or used the DEI bypass module box? If it was bypass, the connection is prolly not a good one, or the resistance is off, throwing the security light.

If the passlock was altered, then cutting a new key or trying a different key isn't going to help unless it is a defective ign. key cylinder, which will be like 150 bucks at the dealership to replace.

I had the same issue for over a year, it happened to me because i had to much weight on the keyring and it wore out the ign switch internals i replaced the ignition switch, and took the extra keys off keyring and i dont have anymore issues.

and i also have a viper alarm with a remote start and dei bypass.

either get a brand new fresh cut key at a dealer.. or replace the ignition lock cylinder.. I think Redog did that and it was like a 555 dollar fix or something O_o

use HPTuners or the like and just turn the system off. Or once you get it running, disconnect one of the wires, the "security" light will stay on all the time and it will work until the battery is disconnected...

That would defeat the purpose. OP doesn't want a key cut from an old worn out key, he wants a key cut directly from the VIN # by GM. It varies in price from dealer to dealer, I paid $4 at one chevy dealer and $7 at a different one. And ironically the one that only charged me $4 was the one that looked up the keycode for me.

big difference between gettin it fresh cut from the VIN # on the car.. versus getting a COPY made from a key that has seen years of use lol

this key I have now.. wal mart cut it about an 8th of a centimeter to deep.. so now I have to wiggle the key in the ignition while gently pulling out to get it to turn over.. my key also comes out of the ignition even when its on ACC / ON ect-

driving down the road and the key falls out of the ignition.. "wtf.."

You could disable the security feature by using a toggle switch on the black and yellow passlock II wires. The only thing is you will have to look at the security light, but it will at least bypass the security until you get a new ign cyclinder.
