Fighting Futility (Rust)

So the metaphoric gray hairs are popping out on Angel. A little more rust on the door panels and a spot bubbling the paint on the roof. Today I did an exterior detail and had the idea of putting some WD40 on a rag and rubbing over the parts where rust was beginning to show. I know it will not make it go away or remove it, but maybe it will slow it down?

They used to oil swords, etc. in the olden times. Maybe it could work.
