Well, ~70K miles and I believe its just that time. Coolant light comes on after putting in coolant, evil looking substance with the depths of the engine bay, I'm gonna go ahead and assume its the LIM. If so, what non-oem kind should it be replaced with? And if you got it done in by a shop or dealer, how much did you pay? (and what was the wait?)

TIA

before you do that just check on the water pump...i had very similar issues and i went to have my LIM checked...as it turned out i just had a faulty waterpump.

oh and they were looking to charge 700 if it was the LIM

i paid $400 for the LIMG to be fixed. a water pump should run ya about $125. both prices are "out the door".

I'm getting mine done next week. My mechanic said it is about a 5 hour job by the book and the new Fel-Pro updated gaskets are about $150-$200. In total its about $450-$500 canadian to do it, but I know other mechanics would charge more, depends who you know I guess.

i dont like fel pro gaskets, they dont have the over torque disks that would solve the lim problems. I know NAPA has the redesigned gaskets witht the torque disks in them.

i'd say 150-160 miles per gallon is pretty damn good. i'm sure you meant per tank, but i just thought that was funny.

Hey all

Yesterday I finished cleaning surfaces and re-installing gaskets, rods, and lim.

The best part is you cant find out how good a job you did until after the engine is assembled!

I just hope my female dog starts after this. its alot of nail biting work,

I just got mine back, my mechanic found a ton of that jelly stuff that happens when the coolant mixes with the oil. Took like 6 hours and two guys to get it all cleaned up and put back together. Runs like a dream now, no weird smells and tons more power, very smooth. I didn't plan on getting it done this early, I didn't realise how serious it was. I told him I was originally going to do it in 3-4 months, he told he that if I had waited 'You wouldn't have an engine'. He is a great oldschool guy, he even painted the valve covers and intake and polished the '3400' symbol for me. It fired up on the first turn of the key with no leaks. Sounds smoother and less irregular.

I don't know about you. But for me to turn on the fans infront of my engine, I have to turn on my a/c. not my heat. its been working.
