so my car has been burning oil since the beginning of october and i still dont have money to fix it. i believe the problem is the mech's phuked up the install of my P&P manifolds. are there any long term effects to burning oil for so long? i probably wont have money to fix it til feb. not to mention i have to drive it up and back to michigan at least once if not twice in the mean time. im hoping that keeping oil in it will suffice for now.

well unless you completley run out of oil, I think you will be alright. If you burning oil it is most likely because your piston rings are going and your getting oil into the combustion chamber.

My mom went 5 years with her car burning oil and the mechanics always said she'd be fine as long as she kept replacing the oil and didn't ever let it get low.

Not that you should let it go for 5 years, LOL.

probably not a good idea, especially for jackal. Its better to run a tri sythetic which is half oil half synthetic, then switch to a full synthetic.

Burning oil is a symptom, not a disease. As I'm sure you know, it just means there's a leak somewhere that's letting oil get into the combustion chamber or somewhere else hot enough that it'll burn and end up in your exhaust. It can be nothing, it can be a big deal. As long as you keep the oil filled up, you won't seize your motor, which is #1 big problem that can happen. As far as whatever is leaking/not sealed right that's causing the oil to burn, if it hasn't caused any problems yet, you'll probably be alright for a while. Obviously you're taking a chance, but you gotta do what you gotta do. If you think someone else messed it up, call 'em up and see if they'll diagnose it for you free/cheap. They are liable if you can prove they screwed it up, but usually only for so many miles/days.
