Hey hey,

Well I just bought my first Alero. 2000 2 door V6. Not to sure about to much of it yet. But I must say, I was surprised at the power this little spitfire has. Soon as cam works again, will post pictures. I am getting alot of Ideas on slight mods to start with.

This site rocks!

welcome to the site

you'll find plenty of experts on appearance, sound, and performance if you have questions.

please DO remember to use the search button before asking however. Over 90% of new questions asked have been covered redundantly.

Post a pic of your ride if you feel so compelled.

-peace-

It is a metalic blue.

Well I just came off driving a Ford Explorer. I do know what power feels like, I owned a 88 chevy with over 600 hp. However, what I ment here, is that the car suprised me with the amount of power it has.

If you had a vehicle with 600hp and you know what power feels like you would have noticed right away that the alero has no power at all.
Had a vehicle with 600hp? Know what power feels like? Alero has power? rriiiiight

He's not saying that the Alero has a lot of power.

What he is saying is that it has more power than he was expecting out of it.

Wow, just started here and already being flamed. Not to nice. But oh well, allow me to fully describe my intended point.

I have not owned to many cars. I had a ford probe once. It was the GT model. It was very laggy. Other than that car, I have not had anything in a car that I would consider to have a good deal of power.

Now, my 88 chevy had a 350 small block with a few engine mods that pushed the horsepower needle up a little bit. I kick myself for selling it.

Now onto the Alero. From the research I read before buying the car, the 3400 v6 was looking at 170hp, and I figured it was a pretty good start. Once I drove it, I was suprised at the actual performance of this stock engine. It gives a slight maybe 1/2 pause at the start, but then it has a good power band through 6500 rpm or so. So I bought it.

I plan to do the usual mods to the engine, nothing to extreme as I still want to remain with some gas mileage to boot. Cold air, chip, HP Alt/msd electrical, move this, tweek that. The usual stuff to gain about 50 to 60 hp.

I am going to concentrate mostly on body modification/graphics, and interior.
Shaved suicide doors
Modified mirrors/lights.
Wide body kit.
Cat back system with flowmaster 40/60 series. (haven't decided yet)
Moving the exaust exists to just behind the rear wheels.
Obvious stuff like rims/calipers/brakes.

I am not looking to make a speed racer/track beater car. I just want a nice looking car with respectable power.

Your RPM's dont go to 6500.
You wont gain 50-60 hp from those mods, 5-10 hp if your lucky.
350 with a "few mods" wont get you 600hp, it takes alot of mods even for a 350. I have a 350, i know what it takes to get that kind of hp.
Im not flaming, just pointing out facts.

I hate to be redundent, but I will. First, my Alero's tack goes to 7000 RPM. And yes, I have had it in the red, which starts at 6250 RPM.

Now, on to the Chevy 350. First thing you do is put in a 400 crank This little mod makes it a 383. Add to that a edelbrock rpm air gap intake, heads with 2.02 valves, 750 carb, 1.6 rocker arms, roller rockers, all K&N filtration, have the entire engine internally ballanced and blueprinted, add a race aluminum radiator and you have your hp to a little over 600 hp.

I never had the money to update the transmission, so I was running the stock 350 turbo that came in the truck. I kept blowing it, got tired, sold it. Now after seeing the high school kid who bought it beat the poop out of it, I want it back.
