Need help. big problem!!!

Hey guys, don't bash me for not using the search but i need the answer realy quick. I have a problem, a major one. i have a 2001 5spd manual 2.4 alero. The problem is when the engine is not on. i can shift in to any gear and ect. but when i start the car, i cant shift into any gear at all. The stik doesnt move. I don't understand whats wrond. any sugestions what's wrong? will the replacement of the cluch master cylinder help? i'll be waiting for you coments. thnx.

I had something similar happen about 15 years ago in a truck I had and it was the slave cylinder

can anyone be more specific? come on guys you are my last hope... cause my car ish at the shop for 3 weeks now and those dumb mechanics don't know what it is they blame thats in american car... ass.... =/

Like Hazmat said, it could be your slave cylinder. Is the clutch pedal hard to push in? Does it stay at the floor? When the engine is on and you try to shift, does it grind gears? I can't think of what would completly freeze your shifter like that. Any lights on your dash?

Master or Slave Cyl... but would need more info on what its doing besides the stick not movable when the engine running
