Upgrading stock speakers

Okay, so, 2004 Alero. No Monsoon label on stock HU, but the amp is there. I bypassed the Monsoon amp completely, and it's gone, I don't even have it anymore.

I'm upgrading the speakers in my car. From what I've read, all I need is the rear deck and front door speakers. I'm not replacing those small tweeters in the doors.

I'm a complete noob here, so pardon my dumb questions... I can use the existing wiring, correct? Or should I run new?

It depends on if you ended up bypassing it...You don't really need to run new wires, for the backs while the factory speaker is a 4 wire speaker there is a combination that works like normal and I can look at how I wired mine and tell you if you would like...I think that the fronts are wired more normal, but if you want the tweeter to work you need to connect the wires that run from the speaker to the tweeter when you wire it in and be sure to keep the resistor on the wires

When I replaced my factory speakers a month or so ago, I used the factory wiring for the fronts. In the front the wires (red and black ) came into the 4x6 speaker and the wires for the tweeter (also red and black) came down and connected to the 4x6 on the same terminals. So the 4x6 speaker had two terminals (positive and negative) with two wires on each. Just cut the wires and attach both reds to the positive on your new speakers. And do the same for the blacks.
When I replaced my back speakers I used new wire. But from what I remember, the back speakers have plugs. I'm assuming that you can cut the plugs off and put the red(s) to your new speakers positive and black(s) to negative.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted

And yes the factory wiring will work. Unless you're running a lot of power to your speakers (like if you had a biggg amp powering them)

Sounds good. I'm picking up a pair of Alpine 4"s for the doors, and Alpine 6x9s for the back, both 2ch.

I'll update when they come in.

Why 4"s for the doors? Why not 4x6's like the original? Just wondering

Well, the original plan was to get the 4s because there weren't any 4x6s in stock, but I found some

Factory wiring will be fine. Unless your planning on amping the cabin speakers or going for SUPER clean set up dont worry about running new wire.
