CAI - cooler air because of where the filter is located, however the longer tube = more distance for the air to travel

WAI - Short lengthed tube supposedly will give you quicker air flow, more at low end. You generally get a noticable hiss due to the open sound of the air pulling through. I used to hear it especially when the car jumped into 2nd, sounding like it was spooling heh. However the WAI's no matter how you work em, do have worse heat soak being close to the engine.
There are people out there rigging ways to cover em or direct colder air to a WAI without moving the filter
