Alright, thank you.

Only reason for why I'm asking is I installed a radio in my aunt's Aurora and I got a warning light. I guess the computer was confused when It was checking something

Thanks again

I had some of the same questions answered on a post I started about head unit replacement...Search for my post regarding this, I had a few ?s answered and mentioned to me like keep your stock unit. Look in the FAQ section of the site about replacing the stock head unit with a new unit.

You shouldn't, if you do it right. Some idiot at Best Buy tried to tell my brother he couldn't get a new HU in his Sunfire because it controlled the airbags. wtf?

actually some of the GM cars have the airbag and other controls in the hu, you just have to get the right kit for your car to replace it.

Yeah, but this guy told him that he'd have to put the old HU in the trunk and wire it up. I'm thinking, if GM makes it, someone else makes something to replace it.

^yeah but what he said about wiring it in the trunk wasnt completely untrue. I had to do that in my '01 alero to keep the warning tones working in the car. '01 and later the head units control these tones. It may not have been the only option but probably the most practical.

Umm actually on certain models the guy from best buy may be correct.

we have a databus in our car and it remotly connects the radio to the door chimes, and other chimes (not sure about the airbag) but i doubt its that extreme.

The worst that might happen is if you replace your radio you would lose your low gas chime and door chimes but im thinkin thats about it for that. You can relocate the factory radio and keep everything if you want.

Btw this is only on 2001+ models

I don't know what GM was thinking, but I know one car has the ABS through the radio, Malibou or the Aurora can't remember

its not the airbag that it controls, it is the chimes. however it does use the airbag light as an indicator light. and to keep your chimes you must relocate the headunit to somewhere else.
