Rim Issues

Ok so before i tried putting on my summer rims and tires my car would pull to the left slightly due to needing an alignment, and there would be a light "clunking " sound coming from the reare ( i think thast cuz i need new struts or mounts)

Put the rims on test drove and now its a dramatic pull to the right and the rear end sounds like rocks rolling around in a rock tumbler or a bucket.

took the rims off and ended up rotating the stocks when i was putting em back on, and now there is lil to no noise in the rear and my car is aligned and tighter handling as well.

All work done by myself onl. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong with the rims?

The front tires have more than 40% left the ones I put on the rear one was a damn near drag slick and the other was slick around the sides of the tire. Sides meaning side if the contact surface. As for rocks... I have no idea but I do kno that one of the rims has a crack in it that is fixed with jb weld for now I'll get some pics up

Any cracks in the rims? Are they holding 40 PSI all the time?

there is a crack in one of the rims yes. and i had put 40 psi in and went test drove about 2 miles and came back and took em off and put stocks on.

The rims were for an 2000-05 eclipse and they bolted on just fine.

Nah, you won't ruin your tires like that.. I run mine at 41/36 and haven't had any tire wear issues.

I do tend to wear the sidewalls at lower pressures though.

Tires Specifically say say 44 PSI Max so i put it at 40 so the tires have room to expand in heat/cold however that works.

lol you do know thats a max load rating not MAX psi to set it at for driving.

that max psi means do not exceed it for weight, the 30 psi that is recommended by manufactures is for the weight of the vehicle and best wear out of your tires, granted some people get away with no bad tire wire but I see it a lot at work people think " oh it says max 44 " or so on and just set it at that it is a false and should always be at the manufacturer specs plus it doesn't ride as rough at 30 compared to 40

Well, it's a trade off. The stock pressures listed on the label is a compromise between good handling, fuel economy, tire wear and comfort.

Higher pressures can increase the handling ability and to an extent the fuel economy. If you go too high, you can wear the center of the tire or the opposite with too low.

Well, just watch for irregular wear. Some wheels also have maximum inflation pressures listed on them as well. There's no benefit to getting a couple better MPG if you're going to have to replace $400+ in tires that much sooner.
