Aftermarket Gauges

I just saw someone on here wanting to sell their gauge pod and it reminded me that I would like to do aftermarket oil pressure and something else lol. My question is, if you hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to where the factory sender was, will unhooking it cause a check engine light? Might do a temp gauge as well, would unhooking it throw a light? Has anyone ever done this and will be able to tell me what adapters to buy and such? Thanks!

If I had to make a recommendation, a Voltmeter would be the first gauge I would install. Anyway, it may be possible to put in a T fitting where some of the other sensors are to keep the factory sensors in as well. Or just see if an OBD2 based gauge set already has what you want and go with that.

factory sensor is useless, unplugging it electrically won't cause anything bad

this should be in the engine specific forum. everyone's oil sensor locations/sizes are different.

Another question is; is it better to run electricsal or mechanical for the water temp? Does anyone know what size adapters I will need to but to do Oil and Water?
