rear door lock replacement

Hi

The lock on the rear drivers side door will not open using the keyless remote. I do hear the motor make a loud switching noise so the motor is working but its not catching on the lever that pushes the lock button.
Does anyone know how to repair this.

I removed the 2 screws and pried the door pannel off but have no idea how to get at the lock. Its covered with a metal plate that is welded on.

Now what do I do?
